Gita Dhyanam - 3

प्रपन्नपारिजाताय तोत्रवेत्रैकपाणये।

ज्ञानमुद्राय कृष्णाय गीतामृतदुहे नमः॥३॥

प्रपन्न           Surrendering

पारिजाताय       to the Parijata tree

तोत्रवेत्र -           Whip

एकपाणये        in one hand

ज्ञानमुद्राय       the symbol of knowledge

कृष्णाय          to Krishna

गीतामृत         the nectar called Gita

दुहे             who milks

नमः-              Salutations

Meaning :

Salutaions to Lord Krishna to whom I Surrender myself, He is the Parijatha tree, He holds whip in one hand and holds the symbol of knowledge in other hand. He is the milker of the nectar called the Gita .

Significance:

                             The word ‘Parijata’ here means the divine tree , which yield to all objects of desire . It is also called Kalpa-taru. In Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu purana and the Mahabharata it is said that, during the Samudra Mantana , the Paritha tree came out of the Ocean among the three valuables. Parijatha also means , a tree - which is the night flowering coral jasmine, which is found at the top of Mount Meru. The tree is also identified with mandara tree. The word ‘parijata’ also comes in astrology, where it is called Raja yoga or Parijatha yoga. A person with parijatha yoga will be a forgiving , generous,kind hearted, fearless, successful , strong willed, fond of battles,will lead a wealthy and royal life during their middle part of their life.

                  The Jnana-mudra, the symbol of knowledge, it is the gesture of intuitive knowledge. The word mudra means “mudh + Dravay – to draw forth delight or pleasure”. Mudra is that which brings happiness, that which removes pain and sorrows. It is said  नास्ति मुद्रा समं किंचित् सिद्धिदं क्षितिमण्डले There is nothing in this world like mudra which gives success. . Mudras are combination of subtle physical movements. Mudras are higher practices which lead to awakening of the pranas, chakras and kundalini. In jnana mudra, the index finger which symbolises the individual consiousness is bowing to the thumb, which symbolises the Supreme consciouness.
