Significance:

In Indian tradition the place our Guru holds is more sacred. Having offering our salutions to Gita, we now bow our head to Guru. Guru is the only person who can help a person to attain the purusharthas – Dharma , artha , kama and moksha. Guru is the only person who can impart knowledge to a man to cross this samsara sagara in this birth.

Vyasa, means compiler (compiler of the great epic Mahabharatam), divider (of the vedas into 4 Rig,Yajur,Sama and Atharvana ) , Brahman who gave a detailed account of the Puranas. He is the son of sage Parasara . He is known as ‘Veda Vyasa and Krishna-Dvaipayana - One whose complexion is black, One who is born in a island. We celebrate Guru Poornima in his name , the day being his birth-day and the day in which he divided the Vedas, for our benefit. We now begin the study of Gita by offering our salutations to the great sage.
